The Three Tuns, Ashwell

I used to live in the village until a few years ago and decided to revisit the Tuns on a recent stopover with friends. I am delighted to report that the pub still retains it�s local feel and continues to produce very decent traditional pub food at decent prices. My personal tipple, Abbott Ale, was in top class condition and my wife seemed perfectly happy with her Chianti. The management hasn�t changed for many years and their reputation for employing vivacious, friendly and efficient bar-staff has not diminished.

Rumours are rife that the present management is looking to move on ( confirmed on the Greene King website ) but interesting times could be ahead. A couple of well connected and trustworthy villagers tell me that the Michelin starred culinary alchemist, Heston Blumenthal, of Fat Duck fame, has been spotted in the Tuns with business advisors sampling the food and ambiance. It is no secret in the trade that he has been looking for a suitable inn where he can try out new recipes and menus without the pressure of Michelin ratings.

So, it may be Steak Pie today � could it be Bacon and Egg Ice Cream tomorrow? Watch this space�.
