Profile information

My father was a great pub goer and really enjoyed his beer. He refused to pay pub prices for spirits (and wine in pubs was pretty dreadful when I was young) so my sister and I were bought beer when we were old enough to drink alcohol and told we'd grow to like it - we did! Being allowed into the bar to drink beer was a great improvement from sitting outside in the pub car park with a bottle of pop and a packet of crisps, while Dad enjoyed a pint (or two) inside!

The Blue Anchor, Helston

The Blue Anchor is what pubs were all about when I was a girl - good beer (a pint of Spingo will make you smile for hours) and good company. Try their bed and breakfast next door at No 52 Coinagehall Street and, for a real treat, an evening meal here with a jug of Spingo to wash it down. Best to book well ahead.

Crown Inn, Westcott

The Crown has recently enjoyed an internal makeover, although luckily not a new landlord. The old one continues to be lugubriously cheerful, bantering happily with his regulars in between disappearances into the kitchen to rustle up huge portions of wholesome pub food. The garden is receiving some TLC, too. He's chafing that his landlords haven't invested in a matching exterior renovation as yet.
