I cannot believe that St. Margarets is letting itself go.
From a business perspective, I understand that the management thinks that it has to put the football on -logic is that as it will draw the customers in and more customers = more sales = more profits.
There are couple of flaws in this strategy though. Two obvious ones are the quality of punter that will be attracted and their propensity to spend.
What's the likelihood of these idiots drinking before they arrive so as not to fork out too much at the bar?
What's the chance of them ordering a meal when they can go to the chippy across the road?
If St Margarets is aiming at this end of the market, I am sure that the management might find that their loyal customers go elsewhere.
Not showing the World Cup is probably not an option as the vast majority of people have an interst in it anyway. But the World Cup is the only football they should show.
To avoid attracting the undesirable elements during the World Cup, St Margarets should hike up the price of their drinks and refuse service to anybody who (1) uses the word "innit" (2) wears a tracksuit - unless you can prove that you have just come from the gym or sports field, and (3) has fathered a child at the age of 15.
Failing this, St. Margarets should simply rebrand as a "Chaverspoons" and sell cheap nasty beer. They should also considering relocating to Hounslow so their new clientelle can get back to the Young Offenders Institute with ease.
