The Fox and Hounds, Great Wolford
Stayed at The Fox and Hounds with Judy a few weeks ago for one of their two nights stays. Really enjoyed our stay and have booked again over Christmas. The owners are working extremely hard to make a go of a traditional English village inn at a time when many places are closing. They succeed by making guests feel welcome and indeed friends throughout their stay without being partronising. The pub itself is everything one could wish in terms of traditional and welcoming. Roaring fires in winter, beams with hops, interesting prints and most importantly... superb hand pulled beers from Hook Norton and local microbreweries. It got my Camra vote! The locals and regulars are an eccletic group who make excellent ambassadors for the English Tourist Board and make all visitors very welcome and are rightly proud to share their local with guests. The accommodation is comfortable and clean and what one should expect in a three hundred year old property. This is not your standard Travel Lodge. Duck or Grouse as they say! Best of all, however, is the food. Jamie, owner and excellent chef, cooks some of the best food I've ever eaten. Fresh local produce and great portions. He makes his own ice cream, jams, chutneys, sausages, black pudding, and cures his own bacon. I asked him if he laid the free range eggs as well! All in all an excellent place in a beautiful part of the world. I just wish I could afford to live around those parts, but its great to be able to visit , share and made to feel welcome. Thank you all at The Fox and Hounds.
