The Lendal Cellars, York

I recently visited York with some members of my family and my dog.

We sat in the (mostly empty) outside seating area and two members of my family entered the bar to order food and drinks for four adults. While they were in the bar we were informed that we were not welcome in the outside area and made some excuse about food being served and the law and dogs.

I would like to point out that while I respect it is the landlords discretion to allow dogs in the bar, it is nothing to do with the law. Hygiene rules restrict dogs from areas food is being prepared or stored, NOT areas where it is served. In this case we were not even in the bar but outside.

If you have a dog and want to eat or drink in York go elsewhere. The Roman Bath just around the corner is dog friendly.

With 5.3million households in the UK owning a dog it is a large part of the population to banish - but thats up to the landlord and his till.
