Cafe Belge, Eastbourne
I and a few friends went out the other evening and experienced an utterly awful meal at Cafe Belge. The 4 meals may guests and I had been appalling:
Burgers were dry and overcooked with no filling in a dry bun. Fries not as good as McDonalds
Salmon fishcakes were soggy and should be described as salmon mash, and not the sort you would want to eat either.
I like a sandy beach with the briny lapping at my feet but I've come to the conclusion that served on a plate with spinach, it leaves much to be desired- crunch, crunch. It finds its way into the salmon mash too.
Avoid at all costs the Chinese mussels. These are cooked with ginger and soy sauce. The saltiness of this sauce coupled with the natural salt from the mussel liquor, created a dish far too salty too eat.
Lastly the braised beef cooked in beer. This may have been an acceptable dish had it been served when plated up, sadly it was not. There was a dry coating over the whole meal-as if kept under a heat source for some time. We shall not be returning. On the bright side though, the beer is good,
