The Printers Devil, Holborn

What a shame white rabbit does not seem to have a personality. I am a regular of the Printers, and have to say I find the bar staff/wine/food/general ambience truly welcoming - just what you ask for in a London pub.
I was also there on the friday night you mention, although I did not partake in the karaoke I was certainly partaking in a bit of a boogy and chatting with many of the other people who were there. There may have been city boys and girls, but frankly, we are in the city - what do you expect? This does not mean that any people there were aggressive or pretentious - there was certainly no "inevitable trouble" as you call it - and has never been in the many many times I have frequented this establishment!I suggest if you want a quieter friday evening, with people as miserable as you are - to stay well away and have a drink with your fun friends somewhere else.
