Such a shame that this money hungry government has once again strangled the common man so much that he can no longer afford to drink in his local pub, our streets will never be the same again now all the smaller pubs have either gone or running at such a loss that closure cannot be prevented. A real shame.

The Anchor, Rowhedge

Having visited with family many times over the past few years whilst holidaying in the area, we returned once again a few weeks ago, and left feeling very disappointed, particularly given the money (more than previously) we'd spent on a rare family meal out. The food in the evening has very much gone downhill, particularly the quality of the chips as another reviewer mentioned; greasy, over-fried (if not RE-fried, yes they are that bad!). In actual fact, they taste like over-fried oven chips, not good. Very disappointing as all the other factors that make a good pub/restuarant are in place, with the exception of the dark-haired female staff member who works on a Sunday lunchtime; very surly, miserable, bangs the plates on the table and who is very loud and 'over-friendly' to put it politely with the 'regulars' at the bar, quite off-putting to non-regulars like myself. If we were visiting the pub for the first time we would come away with quite the wrong impression, which detracts from the lovely setting, so, if the landlords ever read this, sort out your chips and your staff! Other than my old man ranting, worth a trip for the lovely views and beer, but just avoid the chips and the moody barmaid.
