I read people's reviews before visiting the pub. Since I was staying in Edale for a week, I decided to try both this pub and the Ramblers Arms, despite bad reviews. The pub was OK, the food was OK - nothing spectacularly good or bad, to be honest.
The food (both veggie and meat) is standard pub grub, nothing fancy, slightly overpriced I think but The Old Nags Head has a good location and so it inevitably thrives. Staff were absolutely fine... nothing to make a fuss about either way. The 'Cheshire Cheese' pub in Castleton (we were going to go to Hope but there are several 'Cheshire Cheese' pubs and we got lost!) did nicer food at the same price. Next time we'll try the 'Cheshire Cheese' in Hope! But whilst in Edale, I'd say give the Old Nag's Head a try at least. Certainly for a pint.

OK - firstly,I'm a genuine reviewer unrelated to the landlord (frankly leaving reviews for your own business will only harm your credibility and make you a bit of a laughing-stock).
I'd read the bad reviews but wanted to see for myself. The signs around the place said family- and walker-friendly. We were tired after a long day walking, but didn't experience any negativity about muddy boots or the fact that we had children with us. My family and I had drinks here (did not order food) and we found it to be a lovely place but a bit expensive (although no more so than, say, a Costa coffee bar). Hot and cold beverages were all very nice. The staff were friendly, and the atmosphere seemed really nice.
