The Canny Man's, Morningside

I�ve not been here for a while, but from what I can see from reviews on other sites, it hasn�t changed much in the past 20 years since I was a regular!

The place has been a pub since the 1870�s, and is essentially a converted lower floor town house. It has lots of little rooms crammed with an astonishing array of antiques and tat.

From memory, it offers a reasonably broad range of wines beers, and spirits of indifferent quality, what�s far more important is the atmosphere of the place � think of Acorn Antiques with booze!

One of the charms of the place was the truly spectacular volumes of �stour� (fluff) bedecking all the ornaments, I believe this has all been tidied up now (more�s the pity) but it probably represented a health hazard!

Weekends were especially busy, virtually standing room only, clientele were overwhelmingly under 25, lunchtime and midweek was far less crowded.

The Canny Man (or to use it�s formal name �The Volunteer Arms�) is an experience in it�s own right, and if you find yourself on the vicinity of Morningside, is well worth a visit.
