The Romping Cat, Bomere Heath

Changed hands last year and has been fully re-furbished with some interesting feature stonework exposed. Has just had a lawned area added. A wide range of local ale and the two I tried were excellent.

The Black Gate, Oswestry

Excellent traditional town pub. Banks' seems to house bitter. Nice decor and excellent beer.

The Barley Mow, Trefonen

Was a little surprised to see the previous rating for this pub. I had visited only shortly before and had a completely diferent experience. Although the sign outside said food was being served, there was none available. According to one regular this place has a high staff turnover and it's hard to know if it will even be open on any given night. I tried the Grim Reaper. Presented well but lacked flavour. Another local told me they had a bad chimney fire last year and allegedly the structural repairs have still not been done. I found the decor a little tacky. Maybe it's just me.
