One final comment to my anonymous one below, this pub could actually do with "refurbishment" by Ember Inns, or All Bar One, or some other classy chain!

Ye Olde Greene Manne, Rickmansworth

This was a good, old pub that was "refurbished" by Ember Inns. So, the original 18th Century wood was ripped out, and some new laminated furniture was installed. Still, the beer is fine, the service is reasonable, and there are no TV screens. However, it can get busy at weekends, and the food service can be slow. Overall, a good pub, with no tracksuit wearers.

Gate, Northwood

The Gate used to be a lovely, old, real pub. Now, it is part of the Ember chain. They ripped out the old 18th Century wood, and replaced it with new, fake, laminated, wood effect. Easy to clean, but lacks atmosphere. The beer is fine, the service is satisfactory, and at least there are no TV screens. The customers are a nice mixed bunch, with no tracksuit wearers around. Shame it is a bit far from the village centre.
