The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

Still a very, very good pub, on its day one of the best in London, but I'm a bit worried/disappointed about it based on visits this week. On Monday it only had two hand pumps on and today, Sunday afternoon, only one (a very good pint of Wandle but the only option). For a pub which prides itself on its beer choice that's pretty poor. Understandable after a Fulham game when the beers often run out but in an ordinary week like this it's a worrying sign. Lots of its trade must be based on people visiting because of that usually excellent beer range - they will simply stop bothering if there's little choice. Hope it's only a temporary blip because this is a great pub normally... please, please keep it up to the very high standard we know it can reach. Remember that the beer fans are often the ones who pay the bills if business is slow. They will travel for the right range.

The Retreat, Reading

Popped into this pub for the first time during an 'away day' pub crawl yesterday and found out the landlord had only taken over the day before. It seems a very good back-street traditional pub and we stayed for three pints each, having only planned for one... it's a place you really should support if you like proper pubs and the landlord wants to hear what beers people would like to see. We had the Rebellion Fat Cat and it was excellent, very well kept. The landlord seems a friendly bloke and a genuine fan of real ale, so this great little pub is well worth a visit. About ten minutes or so from the town centre. Hope it goes well for him.

The Golden Ball, York

Superb pub - hope it continues to be so. Best wishes for the new management. Please keep this pub unspoilt and excellent! One beer plea - make sure Tiger is always on. A wonderful beer you hardly see around York (and in my exile of London) otherwise.
