North Riding Hotel, Scarborough

I have been here with my friends a few times and we've found the beer is often past its best. A better option is the Lord Rosebery which has never let us down on freshness or price, around 2 a pint of 8-12 CAMRA ales.

As for 1,000's of ales, I think that might be a slight exaggeration, not to mention a little misleading.

If you are referring to that large number as being beer brands served since the start of operation of a licensed free house then MANY, MANY pubs can match that. That's not a selling point!

I have to agree with Funk.

The Lord Rosebery is a lovely building for a pub and most importantly they do serve a really fresh brew, offer the most competitive real ale prices in Scarborough and cater to families, so you don't have to remortgage your house to pay for a babysitter.

Some people can't stand compete with the competition it would seem.

Personally I don't like grubby little pubs. I mean if the landlord can't be bothered with keeping his hous in order what does it say about his beer?

Keep up the good work Spoonies.

Hi, I recently had a weekender in Scarborough with my mates from Essex and I have to agree with funk. Ian and myself both received beer past its best and when we complained a local on our side of the bar and the barman both tasted it and said they thought it was ok, which it wasn't. As for refusing tastes well that doesn't make any sense from any perspective. We went the Golden Ball on the sea front. It has much better views of Scarborough and is a charming little place. Also it sells ales from the only authentic brewery left in the country that doesn't brew with essences, namely Sam Smiths. You can get a pint of cask or stout for less that 2. Try getting that from North Riding and see how far you get. North Riding also brew their own copy of Jaipur IPA which tastes more like detergent than any IPA I've ever consumend and I've don a few let me tell you.
