Bearable pub, friendly staff & decent beer but awful food. Try the lamb in sandford.

You really do NOT need to be over 50 to enjoy this pub in fact on the occasions I've visited it's had plenty of youth (I'm in my early 30s and know how to party) but it is a country pub that does food so it does help if you're a grown up.

Go here quite often and coming recently from west London (eg the Ledbury, Anglesea & Havelock) it is really nice to find high quality food in the general food desert that is devon. What is more the ambience is much friendlier and the prices are so low its a joke. If the food is not quite the standard of ledbury it is about on a par with the anglesea & comfortably as good as the havelock; a proper foodie pub. There is always a collection of good beer & wine (again, be amazed by the prices.) I like it more every time even if it is 8 miles away!
Apparently they now have rooms that are outrageously smart and twice the size of any normal 5 star establishment.
