The City Pride, Isle of Dogs
I have just returned from what can only be described as a truly shocking experience at the City Pride. I was with a group of colleagues whom for most of us was our first visit to this establishment (it will now be our last visit).
The pub was not when we arrived busy, we sat down made our choice for lunch and went to the bar to order and pay. After standing at the bar being ignored for 20 minutes we where finally served by a "new" member of staff through no fault of their own had not been shown how to use the till system correctly so the ordering process took some time, that however i am afraid was the best part of our experience there. After another 30 minutes our food started to arrive in dribs and drabs, 2 lunches arrived 2 to go. The second 2 where both incorrect only for the manager to arrive with another 2 plates of food, 1 correct one incorrect. The manager then shouted at one of my colleagues for having an incorrect order in front of her (his bar staff had placed it there). We then explained the fourth lunch was still incorrect. He said he would reorder and it would arrive shortly, there was no apology for the mix up just a totally attitude and rudeness at the fact we was actually asking for what we had ordered. Whilst the 3 of us polished off our lunches the fourth lunch was still no where in sight. Myself and my colleague who was still waiting went to the bar to ask to speak to the manager, when the manager arrived he shrugged he shoulders and muttered that he hadnt reordered the lunch! He offered my colleague a refund (which she took), all well and good but we had been in there for over an hour and she was now not going to have time to get something. I then said to the manager that this was our first visit and we where totally unhappy with the service, i was not rude i just merely stated that the service wasnt up to scratch, the response i got was as follows; City Pride Manager you cant say that, i dont recognise your face, you dont come here before" i replied "no i dont and i wont be coming back either", City Pride Manager "I dont like you, your mouth stinks" I told him i would not be coming back and walked off and left. There in all of this was no apology for the delay/mix-up/bad service. If this pub is facing closure then i really would not be surprised with staff like that in charge. There are so many good places to eat and drink in the wharf i would advise anyone to avoid it like the plague; normally its the customers with the attitude not the management. If its a good traditional pub your looking for, please can i recommend you take a stroll down poplar high street, they is a great traditional pub there, the food, drink is lovely and service is with a smile not an insult!
