The Winchester, Islington

Been here twice for people's birthdays and it's useful for that sort of gathering because there are large tables that can be reserved for groups and the two for one cocktails are excellent value. I found it strange that you had to go downstairs into the kind of club room to order the two for one cocktails instead of being able to buy them upstairs as well, as they did have cocktail materials behind the bar upstairs, but maybe it's easier to serve large crowds of people down there and keep the upstairs free for food orders. The first time I went though a DJ set himself up and started playing awful music so loudly that we had to ask him to turn it down because nobody could hear what other people were saying.

The Archway Tavern, Archway

It's called the Dusk Till Dawn now and my boyfriend's band played there so I went along and I thought it was fine. The bar staff were friendly, and there was another room at the back which had some other music event on so there seemed to be a lot happening in there on a saturday night. I wouldn't go there for a drink unless there was a band playing but I've been in worse pubs.

The Bald Faced Stag, East Finchley

I've eaten here a couple of times and it's quite expensive but the menu was always interesting. However, the last time I went I ordered a shellfish dish, which cost me �13, and was presented with a portion which in no way, shape, or form was worth that amount of money, and then the next day I was ill so I've never been back since.
