The George Inn, Eartham

We visited last Friday lunchtime for a meal with family and were very disappointed. The food was average to poor: overcooked and greasy chips and a beef and ale pie with grey scraps of meat in an unthickened gravy were among the offerings brought to our table after a wait of 40 minutes.
The service was even worse. Although we had made a reservation,we were seated in the bar which was a jumble of lifted carpets and disarranged furniture. We were told that the dining room was being decorated and was "fumey": however no decorators put in an appearance!
After a wait we fetched some very grubby and tatty menus from the bar, and after another wait, went to the bar to place our order. The young woman in the bar did eventually arrive at our table, but she was clearly preoccupied with dealing with the fire in the lounge, and she made very little contribution to the service. The usual civillities eg was there anything we needed? were we enjoying our meal? were missing, we even had to fetch our own condiments!
We have had a pleasant meal at this pub in the past and can only conclude that the new management have a very steep learning curve ahead of them!
