Been here three times now since the start of the year and each time its got progressively worse. While the menu is interesting, the homemade soup very good, the rest is below par and the service a joke.
Long waits as standard and food rarely comes out at the same time if you are in a group. It's often cold when it does. You also feel like you are made to wait just long enough to have to order another drink to go with your meal. Ask for ketchup or vinegar and you get a communal bottle - not very hygienic!
As for price, some items are OK, but others are a bit excessive. Greek salad with half a baguette for 8.50 guessing it was flown in from Greece and the price reflects its airfare!
The staff are friendly enough, but not very switched on. Last time we visited the landlady and barmaid both cleaned the same table within a minute or two of one another!
Not the worst pub in the world, but put off enough that I wont be going back any time soon.

Sad to see that the Hatch is getting negative reviews in recent months. I've been going here for nearly ten years and still love it! In fact I moved from London to the Kent/Sussex border to go more often and indulge in Ashdown Forest too.
The food is great if a little pricey and yes, some of the visitors are on the snooty side, but that adds to the fun of people watching when having dinner!
Best thing to do is go for a llama trek at the nearby Ashdown llama park and then pop in for lunch - a truly perfect day!

The Hatch Inn, Colemans Hatch
Shocked by some of the more recent reviews on here. This is THE BEST pub in the country. I used to do a 70 mile round trip from South London for dinner or lunch and now that I live about 12 miles away still love it as much as ten years ago.
