The Queens Head, Icklesham

We'd eaten at this pub several times over the past few years and liked it; decent service and reliable if unexciting food, good beer. On a recent visit though we were very disappointed. The food was really poor - I ordered 'pork chop' with apple sauce. The 'pork chop' was in fact two cheap fillets - very dry and completely unseasoned, almost inedible in fact. The vegetables likewise microwaved and no sauce whatsoever - in fact no apple sauce (I had to ask for it). The plate was piled high with chips swamping the excuse for a dish. The young guy behind the bar was cocky and dealt very off-handedly with a couple who mildly complained that their madras curry wasn't spiced enough - when they left he loudly proclaimed that 'well it said madras on the jar'. My wife's fish was overcooked and same story for the vegetables...I should have complained but had had a long day and no faith that they would take it seriously so just politely blanked them and left. Real shame because we have a young baby and that was our one night out on our own on the holiday.
Fairly obvious that the place has moved into fleece-thecustomer-on- the-back-of-a-good-reputation mode. Rather short-sighted I reckon. Beer was good but I guess they need to keep the locals happy. Will be lookng for another pub on my next stay.
