The Coombe Cellars Devon, Coombe in Teignhead
I've visited coombe cellars since childhood,(now 40],
I'ts always been a favourite haunt for the whole family, it was great to take kids there who could burn off energy while the adults had a quiet meal and drink, the food was always traditional and satisfying, just as you'd expect in such a location.
What a transformation!! The decor was fantastic with open fires and the smell of burning logs extremely welcoming, but I'm afraid that was the only possitive, I think it's a good idea to keep a menu simple, but I feel it should be less fanciful. My husband had grilled chicken sandwich with sundried tomatoe mayo, and chips. We expected it to be served in a soft freshly sliced bloomer bread, instead it was extremely thin dried out bread, perhaps I'm a little ignorant and it was a speciality bread, whatever,it just wasn't tasty, the garnish left much to be desired, a little coleslaw would have been nice for the price, and the chips could have been better.
As for my meal, well I'm afraid I didn't see anything I fancied, I just had a drink.
So we obviously wont be back, luckily we didn't take our 2 young children there , a beatiful view unfortunately doesn't entertain them for long!
It would be interesting to know if they are receiving more buisness since changing the exterior and menus so dramatically,if they are then good for them, if not, they know what to do.
