The Pigs Nose, East Prawle

Arrived with a friend, who had had a poor experience with service before; so we asked for estimated time for serving 2 ploughmans lunches (20-30 minutes). It actually took 45-50 minutes, and that only after complaining. Excuses were given about cooking to order (ploughmans'?), handling orders in the sequence placed (the preceding one had been delivered fully 30 minutes before ours), and being busy (at least 1/3 of tables were unoccupied). The smoked mackerel (�6.25), when it finally arrived, was about the size of a large anchovy. In fairness the ham was good. Drinks service at the bar was similarly lacklustre.
A great pity, since this is a characterful pub, not unfriendly, comfortable, and with good beer. Why is it that certain landlords are happy to keep their customers waiting in this way? Do they not want to sell the food and drink? Will not be calling again.
