The Noughts and Crosses, Polperro

We had an early dinner here on 30 October 2008. The service we received was unbelievable. Firstly there was no beer or guiness in the pub because of a delivery problem according to the barman ! If that was not bad enough- I asked for a glass of red wine and the barman said that as they had none (!) his colleague was going to buy some red wine at the off licence. An hour later no wine had appeared, despite asking a number of times. Clearly the whole story was made up and there was never going to be any red wine.
Despite this, we did eat at the pub; only because the barman served my wife her drink, before admitting that they didn't have anything that I might have wanted.... The food was not good. The Whitebait we had for a starter was clearly frozen and not fresh and in a batter. My steak was full of gristle and fat, accompanied by uncooked frozen chips.. My wife had scallops which were disppointing because they were not in a cream and pesto sauce as the menu had described. We should have sent all the food back and left. I cannot remember having such poor food or sevice in a pub. Avoid this pub at all costs.
