The Fleet Inn, Twyning

I recently stayed here for 2 nights - Nov 2008
When I arrived the booking in was good. They took me over to the room - The Avon, a double room for single occupancy in a converted boathouse. It sounded idyllic. However the entry corridor had a very musty smell but the room smelt OK, probably because all the windows were open and it was freezing cold. They closed the window and turned on the heater. I had a reasonably quick (good) meal in the pub and then went out. When I returned at 11:15 pm, the place was in darkness - pub closed. Breakfast (juice, milk, cornflakes and croissant) on a tray in the room. They advertise cooked breakfast at an extra cost but I wasn't offered this at all. I investigated the room and bathroom:
* no shower curtain
* bathroom floor that moved when you walked on it
* no cup and saucer for a hot drink
* a dirty bottle of ketchup on the floor by the mini-fridge
* a dirty carpet that needed a good vacuuming
* the wastebin hadn't been emptied since the previous occupant
* a live earwig in the bed
I managed the first overnight stay but without a hot drink at breakfast. I then went out for the day before anyone was around, returning again at 10pm. Then I discovered:
* breakfast tray on the dusty floor outside the room with the milk container and glass of juice uncovered
* rain spots on the breakfast tray
* the room hadn't been entered since I left it
* bed unmade
* previous breakfast tray still in the room
Luckily the bar was still open so I went to complain. Immediately they only charged me for one night's stay plus the meal. No questions asked, I felt as if they weren't surprised. I was told to leave the key in the room when checking out - obviously 10am is too early for them to be around.

I just want to try and prevent other people having such a bad experience.
