The Candlemaker, Battersea

Recently re-opened as the Candlemakers. Nice looking pub, that has obviously had quite a lot spent on it.

Perhaps they should have spent a little money on training the staff how to look after their beers properly. Although they have 4 or 5 pumps, never usually more than 2 bitters/ales on.

I was in recently with a rather knowledgeable beer buff/landlord who offered a little advice to fix a couple of small problems they were having with the hand pumps. The staff couldn't have been less interested if they'd tried.

If you like bottled lager and a younger crowd, this is probably the place for you. If you like a well-kept selection of bitters/ales, jump on the 319 at the bottom of the street and go to the Eagle on Chatham Road

The Eagle Ale House, Clapham

The pub is great. A fine example of how a proper local should be. There is always a good choice of well looked after real ales, served by the friendly and knowledgable staff.

The beer festivals are fantastic (twice a year), as are most major sporting events. Live music, superb pub quiz, live plays, excellent atmosphere. What more could you ask for? Give it a try - you won't be disappointed.
