The John O'Gaunt, Lancaster

Visited the John o Gaunt on Saturday 15th June 2013 7pm before the cinema. A few years since I visited and won't be going back in a hurry. There were 4 cask beers and my partner and I went for Doombar which was in good condition. 1st impression when walking in was why was music pumping out in the porch as we entered? We were greeted by two very noisy barmaids and then we sought a quieter part of the pub which proved difficult what with Dire Straights and the Stones pumping out at excessive level. There were very few people in the place but it was so noisy. We were then amazed when the two rowdy barmaids burst into a very loud attempt to sing something completely different to what was playing (for the benefit of the three locals at the bar). To be honest I would have expected the barmaids to be asked to leave had they been customers. What a shame that an historic pub famed for its jazz in the past has gravitated to such depths. Definately a no go area for me in the future. The drink that we had after the cinema was in the Three Mariners near the quay which proved much more calming and the beer was great.
