The Farmers Boy, St Albans

Having looked at the previous reviews I felt that I had to say something after having eaten at the Farmer's Boy about this time last year at lunchtime with my partner, who is a CAMRA member. We had fairly modest expectations of what to expect from a standard 'pub grub' menu, and yet found we were still disappointed. My partner had chilli con carne, which looked as unappetising as it tasted (and also had cheese grated on it, which was not stated on the menu and could be a problem for people with a dairy allergy). I had a chicken salad, which seemed to be mainly iceberg lettuce and red onion. Very, very disappointing.
Similarly we tried their own ales and find them to be quite unpleasant. Perhaps they had a bad day, and obviously it's been a year since we went, but I'm not overly keen to either eat there or sample their own ales again.
However, the juke box had a great selection & we probably will go back to the pub for the good selection of other ales on offer.
