The Hope, Carshalton

This place is a pub in a million. Proper old-fashioned surroundings, board games and books stacked neatly along the shelves, folk music evenings, real ale festivals. To say the proprietors were absolute legends when it comes to expertise and the selection of real ales would be a huge understatement. The range of European bottled beers is the biggest I've seen in any pub ...and then there is "PC" the cat :-)
Well worth the eight mile journey I make to go there each week.

The Bell, East Molesey

This poor little 15th century pub has been RUINED.
I used to drink there regularly and loved it, I popped in there last night, the first time in about two years:
Where there was once NO piped music (except in the games room) there is now Kiss FM style processed autotuned trash coming from every corner, all the knick knacks have gone from the walls, there is grey sludgy paintwork coating many of the once rustic woody surfaces, the open fire is no longer crackling away in the corner and as if all that wasn't band enough - there is now a bloody great big screen with football permanently showing. Saturday night 10pm and the place was virtually deserted ...says it all really.

The Weir Hotel, Walton on Thames

Good food, good beer, peaceful and beautiful location, nice family atmosphere.
Word of warning though; do NOT apply for work here, they chew up and spit out staff like nobody's business!
