The Lord Napier, Thornton Heath

Lord Napier, I know it well, used to be my dads favourite haunt on Friday and Saturday nights. I was born in Thornton Heath in Northwood Road in 1946, left there in 1961 when I joined the Navy. Lord Napier then was run by Pat Merryman, no jazz then, just someone on the piano, and a good old singalong.

When my parents were in the pub, me and my brother played outside, with the occasional bottle of "Muscado" and a bag of crisps brought out to us.

How about this then, in the late 50's my dad had the offer to buy his house, No 71 Northwood Road, for �500 to which he said "Bloody house aint worth it", so he stayed on controlled rents until the day he died, wonder what its worth now.
