The Percy Hobbs, Winchester
On one Sunday, arrived at the pub just after a party of 30 people, who were having a party there, we were told, as each meal is freshly prepared that if we wanted a meal we would have to decide there and then, else wait 30 minutes before ordering. Thats okay if you weren't just going for a meal. We were given a display folder menu, first page about the take over and about the new chef, who was a AA Rosette chef. The whole menu was computer printed and in GREEN type, okay if you have 20/20 vision. We were told that it was no longer a Brewers Fayre and served a better range and varied on a Sunday. There was no chicken, apart from the one that wandered under our table from outside that was, so we decided from the very limited offer available to go with the roast of the day, Lamb at 8.95 each. Three slices of varying degrees of toughness, parsnips that looked like limp chips, a couple of small thrown in roasties that were almost cooked too much and a bed of the best tasting gravy ever, must say that. Compliments there. The vegetables came in a dessert bowl all thrown in, peas in there pods, literally blanched carrots, slices of courgettes and a few peas and a spoon to get it out with. There was only mint sauce available, no apple, I know, it doesn't really go. However I must say the sweet was a taste of heaven and my compliments, but the portion was minimal for a cost of 3.95. This is probably because it was so lush. The Ringwood beer is an asset but the coke had an after taste that you only got from cheap coke. Throughout the meal were plagued with a fly trying to eat our food. The pub itself, style wise is awesome. It would be good if it was back to doing traditional food with a few new ranges thrown in, so that it can cater for everyone. Also change the menu type, NOT in green and not computer typed, looked very tacky. I would not go back there again, not unless it revamped the menu and the way in which the food was served changed, vegetables thrown in a bowl, at least they could of had a platter with segregated sections in, would of looked so much better. At the moment I would have to rate this pub extremely low. As there is a caravan site right by the pub and it is decorated to a style of being a country pub, then this is what people expect. This place can change to be something absolutely fantastic and awesome !!!!!!!!
