The Allan Ramsay Hotel, Carlops

Clearly previous reviewers are basing their experiences on this pub before it recently changed management. I booked a table for Mother's Day 2009. I booked it the night before for four people. We turn up dead on time, only to be told they have no table for us. The last proper table in the dining area was given to people who turned up a half hour late. The gormless manager showed us instead to a pathetically small round card table so low you would have had to bend down to get to your meal. My mother is 89 and disabled. My girlfriend waxed lyrical. The manager said there was nothing he could do, after we booked what we expected would be a proper table in the dining area the night before. No compensation offered. Furious we left and drove all the way back to Edinburgh, where we got a table at a PROPER hotel bar. Allan Ramsay Hotel -- badly organised, clueless, angersome -- avoid at all costs or have your special day ruined.
