The Windmill, Croydon
As all pubs should be. Half the bar staff (all of which have been there for at least the last 6 years since i have been visiting) have invented their own indecipherable language of grunts, clicks and bastardised english phrases. Food is great value and arrives very quick, along with a basket of leading brand 5ml sachet sauces, atop which is provided cutlery tightly and deftly wrapped in a paper napkin. If you ever care to embark upon a voyage of discovery around the floorplan of the place you will frequently notice large clean squares of wall paper where pictures once hung- a classic sign of a classic pub.
Those missing pictures no doubt sold to swell the coffers in order to fund a new venture for the pub- The wonderful 'Windmill Book Club'. Most lesser pubs fall down in the ratings for only serving food, beer and showing sport. Not the Windmill, for carfully arranged along a one meter wooden ledge (with beer induced self adhesive properties) is a wealth of heavy weight litery tomes. The avid book reader would be well to find themselves to this pub where no doubt they would lose themselves for at least ten minutes amoung the collection of well thumbed offerings from Jack Higgins, Tom Clancy and Frederick Forsyth.
I can not reccomend this pub highly enough.
