The Coombe Cellars Devon, Coombe in Teignhead

I think I can call myself a local... having seen Coombe Cellars change hands at least 5 times.... it's present incarnation looks good on the outside with those magnificent views visible from a very elegant bar, but here is where the praise has to end. My wife and I visited on a Friday evening and found the 'new exciting' menu very ordinary, and the service poor; the fault was with the training not the staff, who were valiant in their attempts to please.
The dishes, when they finally arrived, were quite awful, and a sending back did not improve matters at all, there was tasteless miniature portions of duck on soggy salad, cold plates under hot food and the clotted cream was a lie. The drinks were served apallingly late and the bill was just too much.
We look forward to either a restructuring or a change of ownership again.... it's such a beautiful place.
