The Palm Tree, Mile End

It doesn't matter who you are or what you do (or how much you spend). If you go to the Palm Tree often enough you will eventually become aware of the deeply unpleasant attitude in this pub - and it is nothing to do with most of the customers! I am in my sixties, live nearby and was until a few years ago a regular customer with my husband. I now pass it by with regret. I think it is easy to overlook the prejudiced and antagonistic atmosphere behind the bar because it is so very popular and lively that people are focussed only on having a good time with friends. But if you sit quietly with a drink as a regular customer (and one who is not acquainted with the management) you gradually begin to witness what it really like. Anybody who is 'different' might like to stay away if they want to be sure of a comfortable and enjoyable time - though they shouldn't have to. It is such a shame that this attractive pub is spoiled by this.
