The Boat Inn, Whitney on Wye
After reading some of the reviews about The Boat I was a bit sceptical about wither this was going to be the best place to spend my birthday weekend (Friday, Saturday!) with friends (10 of us!). we arrived on the Friday afternoon on the camp site (as we found out the pub and the camp site are two separate businesses) was clean and tidy and once we got the tents up we went across to the boat for a few beers and played pool, its a busy place well staffed and massive menu the beer was average price 2.80-3.10 a pint.
we had pre-booked a table (thankfully!) and we all had starters and mains and to say the food was excellent is not an understatement! we went into a room near the kitchen which sits about 30 people so loads of room for us and probably best for an all male party!
The next day after a full breakfast provided from the campsite owners (full English with loads of tea 7), we spent the day on the river and the comment about getting the canoes out the river was right as you could see where the old mooring was BUT they have clearly had a new mooring area built and its easy to get in and out of the river!
Again we spent the night in the pub it was packed and we should have booked a table but due to the amount of beer drunk the night before we forgot! we had to wait quite a while for a table but that was our own fault (my advise book a table if going on a Saturday THE BOAT 01497831223). so more beer for a starters and once we did get a table most of us had steak! not for the faint hearted the rump stake only just fitted on the plate a few others had rib eye, we left there stuffed no room for more beer!
we had a great time and would recommend people give the boat a go as good eating houses in the west midlands are hard to find!
