The Parrot Inn, Forest Green

My wife and I visited The Parrott for the first time today for Sunday lunch and will certainly return. Parking was easy and we found it to be an attractive, well run country pub, with a welcoming, atmosphere and helpful, friendly staff. Although the pub was well patronised and most of the tables taken, we got a table immediately placed our order there and then, with none of the long delays and queuing that we do often encounter at other gastro pubs at Sunday lunchtimes. We both ordered roast beef, which was excellent. The beef was tender, the roasted squash was delicious, and the Savoy cabbage was perfect (and not overcooked, which can often be its fate in pubs). There is a shop within the pub where you can buy produce from the farm and other local suppliers. We bought eggs and a large freshly baked loaf of bread. Next time we'll probably their home-made pies. There can't be many other pubs where so much of the food comes from the owners' farm.
