Mackenzies Cafe Bar, West Malling
There are so many good Italian style eateries elsewhere that it's difficult not to compare. West Malling is sadly lacking when it comes to Italian food. The place only survives because it doesn't have competition for Pizza or Italian grub. Interior was tired and although not dirty it was `unloved`. Underwhelmed. Certainly shouldn't be considered as somewhere to buy beer.

The Tickled Trout, West Farleigh
On a cross country run from Yalding to Maidstone we stopped at the Tickled Trout as the facade of the building is quite attractive and welcoming.
On entering we noticed that the decor, carpets, table and chairs look well past their sell by date. Then a plethora of blackboards with a vast selection of dishes. Alarm bells, no way they could cook all of these from fresh, not a hope in hell. Anyway my wife chose Halibut and I went for Steak and Guiness pie. The female staff were busy chatting and we didn't wish to interrupt them as it was obviously something important (not).
Halibut arrived and looked like a lump of white playdoh! My pie arrived and it was more like Steak and creosote pie. The pastry was soggy and doughy. Although the food was warm enogh, not hot, we ate our food paid the bill and made good our escape.
Would I go back....not enough wild horses for that to happen.
Good points, ease of parking, nice facade and we weren't hospitalised.
We eat out two or three times a week and know that this is at the lower end of the scale when eating out.

The Spitfire, West Malling
Souless and sad. How this place can be called a PUB is beyond me. Oh, yes it sells beer but then so does ASDA! It's OK if you can't be bothered to travel and live within walking distance. I am happy to travel and I am prepared to walk a bit further.
