The Ship and Whale, Rotherhithe

I run the Thursday night poker at the Ship & Whale, but this is my own project entirely and I am not under employment by John, or the pub. I have been running pub-poker for 3 years, and chose to move it to the Ship & Whale a year ago.

I chose the Ship & Whale because of it's friendly and inviting atmosphere. Although the food was a bit of a draw as well. I can't recommend highly enough the pan-cooked duck which often appears on the specials board... or the chicken wings starter (although I have mine without the piri-piri sauce as I'm a complete wuss... but it's little things like this that make the customer service so good!). Oh and the cheesy garlic bread is pretty damn good too! And the tuna salad... I could go on...

I've taken part in the pub quiz a number of times, and it's always a blast - in fact, even if you're not wanting to take part it's great fun to witness. Also, when the party nights are on, such as Halloween or New Years, it's always a fab night, the festive decor is amazing.

I held my 30th birthday party at the Ship and Whale this year for friends and family, and John and Basia made sure that the whole day/night was special.

Basically, this pub is the best in the Canada Water area, and frankly when I have a choice between meeting up with people elsewhere in London, or in the Ship and Whale, it's the Ship every time. I don't rate this pub because I do the poker there, I do the poker there because I rate the pub.

The Orange Bull, Rotherhithe

I've not been going to the Aardvark for long, but I love it! I'm an english female, and this is the only pub I've ever felt comfy going into for a drink alone. Everyone in there is so friendly, there's always something going on in there, and the food's pretty damn good too! And I really recommend the Strawberry Daiquiri on Cocktail night (Wednesday!)
