The Barmy Arms, Twickenham
Just re-living the weekends antics to a work pal, and a point that came up was our visit to the Barmy Arms!
Really amusing, because I was just looking for the pubs number online, as I wanted to give them a quick call to have a chat with the Landlord, but this site has come up first, & reading the comments it would appear I will be wasting my breath.
As it now seems we have been victims of this lunatic as well!
Quite a funny carry on, but I suppose it could have been worrying to someone of a more fragile nature.
I must add, before I go on..that it was a rugby Day, and having owned very busy licsensed establishments, and been on the wrong end of bullish customers actions on similar busy sporting days, I can say I Understand that as a person in a postion of being responsible for a drunken rugby crowd, then I would be a `bit on edge` also.
However, I would have thought it a wise move, on expecting such a crowd, to have had the employ of a fair few very large door men.
However, the long and the short of it was that due to our group enjoying ourselves, we were asked to leave by the loony Landlord, funnily enough though, it was the end, and it did seem that this chap was just looking for a bit of Drama.
My reaction (with my 6`5" snarling pal by my side) was Sod off, we`re going no where. To which LL replied, this is my pub, I am the licensee, i want you to leave now!. My answer was simple..NO.
Now this situation could have taken a nasty turn for the Loony Landlord, but we however had more pressing issues like getting to the next open pub. What now makes me a gast thinking back is, this man was in fact responsible for the drinkers on his premises, and seemed more drunk than us, and we were on a jolly up.
He was particurlarly glassey eyed, and when told we would not be leaving, he didnt really say or do much else, just sort of looked on, and ranted to himself.
But as the landlord, and under the licensing act, he has to suply a certain amount of door staff to the ratio of people, licensing authorities/police licensing unit, also take a very dim view of Drunk publicans, and it makes you wonder if a coherent licensee was on site at all? (accident waiting to happen?)
Anyway, LL`s actions as witnessed in person do seem to sum up for me the comments left by others, and I`m sure some on here may have a more personal gripe, but these are comments based on a genuine experience at the hands of the loony Landlord, but what else would you have expected at the Barmy Arms? as for previous comments regarding Punch Taverns, I think when they advertised the pub for Lease, they obviously stated, ` Looney Landlord wanted for the Barmy Arms` and thats what they got, so they couldnt possibly be expected to clampdown, and I suppose nor should I.
Apart from that, Nice views.
