The endless tinkering has not created a better pub. For some time the pub has seemed to be lurching, rather than successfully moving, away from the dark old boozer that established its reputation. Whether or not this is progress is an issue of taste. But by taking away the tables, then putting them back, then having sofas, then putting the tables back, all the while watching the burgers go from 7 to 8 to 9 etc smacks of a deliberate drive to drive out the locals and get some sexy Hammersmith types in. Except these people already have about 20 bad bars in W6. And they're the types best worth avoiding by hiding in the Andover! Oh well...

Avoid this pub. It could be great. Nice finish, great location and decent beers. But the staff? And the food? Totally rude, totally overpriced and totally mediocre. Even getting two slices of extra bread was a nightmare. Even two days later I'm still angry by the horrible way I was treated. Avoid!

The Crown and Sceptre, Shepherds Bush
One of the rare pubs that with professional management and less of the crazy Auzzie hangers-on has actually improved after a refurb. And it is clean! Great to see the full range of Fuller's beers (including London Porter) at the bar and I wish the new management well. Quite where the Thai kitchen fits into the traditional British pub model I don't know but at least the food is good and cheap.
