The Fox Inn, Tamworth

The service I received 11 September 2005, 12:30pm:

I asked if I could order food and drinks. The lady serving me replied asking where I was sitting, to which I pointed to my girlfriend bottle feeding our five month old son. She then said Yes I see.

She went ahead and took the order, before bringing along cutlery and serviettes to our table. To which my girlfriend feeding our son on her lap was openly visible.

After approximately another five minutes a lady came across and told us we had to leave, as children under 14 were not allowed in the pub.

We said that they my girlfriend and son had been seen first when the food was ordered, and next when the serviettes and cutlery was placed on our table. All we got in response was that the lady could not have seen us, our son must have still been in his car seat, we said no he was on my girlfriend's lap. We also said how could she have not seen him when she allocated the serviettes and cutlery. To which she repeated the early comment about she must not have seen him.

I felt this lady tone was quite rude and dismissive of us. Notably she did not think to consult with the lady that served us, who ironically was nowhere to be seen at this point.

After receiving my refund for the food and drink purchased we had to take our son out to the car park and finish feeding him in the car.

My girlfriend was quite upset at this especially given that it was quite obvious that we had a young son with us from the outset.

If this is correct, and that they do not allow under fourteens' in their public houses, then why is there no appropriate signage ? In addition why it is not pointed out immediately ?
