The Bird In Hand, Henley-On-Thames

Recently visited Henley for a few days to celebrate the wife's birthday and made the effort to seek out the Bird in Hand as it looked to have the best reviews of the pubs in the area - so glad I did because I was greeted with the friendliest, cosiest local pub I've been in for a good long while. The selection of beers was much better than anywhere else in the area (the usual Brakespear and London Pride, but also a Mordue and another one I didn't recognise), although I was on a take home box of Loddon that apparently was leftover from a local wedding and was being sold off for charity at �1.50 a pop! Its no exaggeration that I could have lived in this pub! Thanks to Graham and the locals for making my trip to Henley really enjoyable, no doubt I'll be back soon enough. 9/10

The Wellington, Birmingham

You can�t argue with the quality or range of beers at the Welly, but I just can�t bring myself to spend any time in there since the smoking ban � it whiffs! Such a shame as I used thoroughly enjoy afternoons spent up there getting through as many top quality beers as possible. I wonder if there�s some kind of pipe smoke flavour air freshener you can buy...

The Lord Clifden, Birmingham

Went in here for the first time on Saturday to while away some time whilst the missus went looking for sparkly things in the jewellery quarter � have to say I was very impressed. Makes an excellent job of being a funky bar with good beers (can�t be many of them around!), good contrast between the (friendly) footie atmos in the front bar and the more food orientated back area. Nicely done out courtyard area as well. Bathams was spot on when I visited. I�m already a fan of the place and will be making the effort to get out there more often.
