Bar Malden, New Malden

Unusual, ambience-free pub. Has a touch of Iceland (the supermarket) about it with the offers and deals-on-meals which seem plastered everywhere. The usual assortment of burger-style, high-fat grub and all served by expressionless staff. The manager has the air of a spikey deputy Head: "Oy, Drew, I can see you at the back of the class sniggering!" A place to go if your train is delayed, I guess.

The Royal Oak, New Malden

A local pub, for local people.....with their dogs too, which is a plus. Just wish the fag smoke extraction apparatus had been unwrapped when the pub was built. You leave with your clothes almost smouldering from the stink. Beer tends to be alright, providing you pre-order your pints about 3 weeks in advance.... almost a rule: you'll never get served 'ere tonight matey.
