The Ring of Bells Inn, North Bovey
This pub changed ownership in December 2008 - hurray!! It's now got a welcoming landlord, a very good menu, an interesting and varied wine list and the beer is well-kept and includes Otter and Tribute. The whole place has been painted and spruced up and they've re-vamped the five bedrooms. the dilapidated thatch has been replaced too. As a local, it's great to have this place back on form after years of being dire.
If you've had a bad experience before - please give it another chance!

The Pandora Inn, Restronguet
This is a lovely old pub in a glorious setting, no idea why it isn't reviewed more. The beer is good - St Austell - and they have a big wine list. The setting - right on the creek - is its biggest selling point. You can even drink your beer ON the water, from their big pontoon.
This isn't a place for a cheap snack, it is obviously aiming to be a foodies pub... and having said that, I thought the food was excellent. Fresh, imaginative, lots of fish and shellfish as you'd expect.
It's on the SW Coastal Path, so a great place to sit, nurse a pint, and watch the world go by. Avoid high summer... very busy! They even have their own ferry service during the busy season.
