A real curate's egg of a place. My first experience was a Sunday daytime birthday meal, which I thought rather good. An unexpected bonus was a couple of handpumped ales which I really didn't expect on first sight. Beer was fine but a bit cold. We've been back two or three times for a beer and we've both had the same impression that the place is almost but not quite.... We're comparing it with similar bars in Manchester suburbs which are really popular but can't nail down why it is not as good. It could be a really happening place. I think it is owned by the same folks as the Nook next door. Neither place is quite right.

In theory a place to visit for folks who like beer. However, if they also like a reasonable ambience, cleanliness and other such silly things, not the best experience. My new girlfriend took me because, although she knew the place, she also knew I liked ale. We've not been back since which is a real shame. The beer was great but the place really needs a thorough makeover. Doesn't mean they have to lose the positives but does an honest real beer pub always have to equate with a dump? I don't think so.

The Bridge Inn, Sale
Nicely refurbished and the beer was rather good. However, if you want to have a chat don't go when there is a footy match on because the commentary is broadcast throughout the pub at ear blistering volume and there is no escape wherever you sit. Would have been so easy to fit on/off switches to the speakers.
