The Bull and Gate, Kentish Town

Some great gigs in the back of this boozer which people often forget to mention. The likes of Keane (spit), Coldplay and Muse all played here before making it super-big, in the latters case to one man and his dog (true!). Good TV coverage for football evenings and some tasteful stuff on the jukebox The Fall, Smiths. Mark E Smith used to drink in here before Fall gigs in the Forum (venue almost next door). Well recommended for a non-pretentious North London Camden-esque gig night out.

The Montague Arms, New Cross

Great gaff, been going in here when I can for the last 10 years or more now. Great on Sunday lunch time with Peter London warbling away and also some cracking stuff on entertainment wise during the week. I think it's only Wednesday night when the Monty is actually shut these days. Organic larger and a stuffed zebra in a carrage what more do you need in life? Sump Puppy night on every 2nd Thursday is the best night. Hats off to Stan and family for keeping this place so welcoming for so long. Long live the Monty!
