I contacted the pub in December 2009 to see if I could hire the upstairs room for a birthday party in January 2010. I was informed by a manager that the function room was full but I could have the pub downstairs for a private party.

I provisionally booked it and then came down to have a look at the pub a few days later to pay my deposit.

After viewing the pub I tried to pay my deposit by card with a different manager on 31 December 2009. He told me that they were just waiting to sort out their new terms and conditions for 2010 and that they would contact me in a few days to sort out the payment. He confirmed my name and assured me that the booking was definately secure so there would be no problems.

After inviting people to the party I called the pub back around 7 January 2010 and was informed that the pub had a number of bookings for the same day "and they had not decided who they wanted yet". I was very annoyed.

They said that a party had been cancelled that weekend due to the snow and that they planned to reschedule for the same day as my party.The manager said he wanted to "honor this". He was not bothered that I had already invited people and that it would be difficult to find another venue quickly.

I asked the manager to call me back the next day. I never received a call.

Very poor management indeed. I would not recommend this pub to anyone, especially not for a party as you may end up turning up and not having a venue. Totally untrustworthy and I am not surprised by the comment posted on 7 January 2010.
