The White Hart, Wood Street

I have been to this pub quite a few times, before and after its refurbishment.

Before: a pleasant country pub; welcoming staff; family-friendly; a simple menu, well executed; reputedly, the ales / beers offered were decent (I rarely drink alcohol, and even then I stick to wines, spirits, and liqueurs, so I rely on the judgement of others in respect of ales, beers, and the like; one of my friends is a trained brewer and distiller and has worked in the trade, so he knows a thing or two).

After: as above, but moved well up the scale. A wide-ranging menu, again well executed; a good range of drinks; a very pleasant atmosphere; welcoming staff; family-friendly; and above all, the wonderment of being non-smoking throughout from Day 1 of its re-opening.

A call ahead to book a table is almost always essential, for the place fills up fast, and stays that way, at both lunch and dinner.

In short: very highly recommended.
