Mount Pleasant, Sedgley

I took my parents here today, on a Sunday lunch time. The beer was on terrific form. The Enville Ginger was better than I have ever tasted it, and there was a great selection of local beers- Old Swan Bumblehole, Holdens Golden Glow and Brough's Pale, to go with Oakham's Bishop's Farewell. We had complimentary roast potatos. My mum and dad (in their 70s) found it marvellous to go to a proper drinking pub- no children or diners. They liked the fact that the Black Country people actually talk to you (instead of looking taciturn/ threatening, like in Stockport where they live). The only thing letting this place down is the artex on the walls and faux Tudor beams. Great beer and a warm welcome. I recommend this pub highly.

The Beacon Hotel, Dudley

You can walk here from Wolverhampton. Go to Jeremy Road, and follow the footpath heading east. At Northway, cross Wolverhampton Road and take a left up to the Beacon hill; there are wonderful views. Carry on towards the transmitters and the Beacon, and then along Beacon Lane to the pub. There are buzzards and skylarks in the fields. I love this pub. I am fortunate indeed that it is my local.
