The Orange Tree, Friern Barnet

This pub has had some bad press over the years, with some of it completely justified. Since Sue and Nigel took hold of the reins six months ago, there have been marked improvements; the freshly painted front, with anti-pigeon spikes above is a definite plus. Cleaned carpet, cleaner toilets and new big TVs for sports and music channels make it far more welcoming. There is not a huge choice of beers, but those on offer are well kept, although a bit pricey for a local pub. They don't have a food service, although anyone can bring in a takeaway, with plates and cutlery provided, at no extra cost. The idiot, coke-head, hoodie crowd has been barred and no longer are an issue, however, don't forget, all pubs get occasional problems with these things; sh*t happens when alcohol is served. It's called "Beer in, brain out"!! Come on guys, forget reputations, come in and support your local and make it a better, livelier place for everyone, or like many other pubs, it will close for good leaving locals needing a bus to go for a pint.
